Gilding the City

Gilding the City is a project by artist Sayraphim Lothian, a Victorian based artist and puppet fabricator. She turns lost, discarded and broken bits of jewelery and other objects into unique individual pieces. Once finished, they are installed around the city. Becoming hidden objects which reward those who take the time to stop to look and see just what the city has to offer.

The pieces range in styles and looks from ritualistic to cheeky, natural to candy-like. It’s a connection between the artist and city, and to those who happen to find Sayraphim’s works as they walk through theĀ  streets.

Gilding the City started as a Melbourne street art project and has quickly spread to the UK and the USA. Gilding pieces are starting to appear on the streets of England, Europe and America.

I’m thinking if I were to find one of her pieces I’d give it to someone in my life who I thought the piece represented most.
