Sylvia Ji – Gilded Roses

On  Saturday 17 December at Corey Helford Gallery,  Sylvia Ji will present her latest body of work in her fourth solo exhibition titled Gilded Roses. Sylvia is internationally recognised for her enigmatic day of the dead beauties and you may remember her work from previous issues of CURVY.

Her new 12 piece collection Gilded Roses, the title of which refers to her signature style of outlining roses in gold, takes us deeper into an aristocratic realm as she studies the ‘Ornamented being’.

The female archetypes she portrays are regal, ornate and embellished with all the pomp, lace and trimmings of court, they emit power even from behind a shadowed veil or the shapely confines of a corset.

Her portraiture gracefully entwines her inspiration of Western European costume design and modern couture. She takes us into an unoccupied past with rich, bold and insistent colours that stake their place in the now.
