Under the guidance of EPICURE’s Pastry Chef Deniz Karaca; volunteers from various hotels in Melbourne, and 30 Holmesglen students and teachers gave 800 hours of labour to help build a village entirely out of gingerbread. 120kg of gingerbread in fact.
It includes iconic Melbourne landmarks such as The Arts Centre, MCG and The Melbourne Town Hall as well as a Fairytale Castle and a chocolate fountain in the form of a moving Wind and Water Mill. It just doesn’t stop there either, there are miniature chefs getting up to mischief, AFL players at the MCG, shopkeepers, animals as well as fruit and vegetables. There’s even a train and a tram that run all the way around the Village which uses the 30 meter railway line.
If after all that looking at creatively displayed Gingerbread gets you a little peckish, there are pastry chefs on hand, whipping up tasty creations. Including gingerbread men, love hearts, macarons and chocolate-coated nuts, which can be purchased at the exhibition. If they make it under the Christmas tree a perfect tasty Christmas gift.
For those who would like to get creative and make their own mini villages you can pick up a ‘make your own’ gingerbread house and gingerbread tree kits, there too.
