Need inspiration?

Creativity doesn’t just have an ‘ON’ switch. I kinda wish it did.

I find that working full-time can often mean that I will go for weeks without painting. And when I do paint it’s usually because I have an exhibition coming up and need to do something pretty quickly. So, what do I do when I’m under the pump and need to get creative?

Something totally uncreative – such as tidy my studio, go for a jog, or just chill out on the hammock in my back yard.

My studio

My studio always needs a clean.

Why? Because taking my mind off the task at hand can really help. I used to only do this sort of thing when  I was ready to give up, but I have found over the years that taking these breaks to let ideas percolate is really valuable.

Go for a walk or a jog

Go for a walk or a jog to clear your head

If I just don’t have time to take a break then I will look at design blogs and image bookmarking websites, or flick through magazines and art books until some ideas come to mind.

In addition all of these activities include listening to music! I am always streaming tracks from SoundCloud.
