Every so often a film comes out that inspires the creative world, you just have to look recently in the past 10 years, Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland and now we’ve Little Red Riding Hood, an American dark fantasy film directed by Catherine Hardwicke, from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson.

This latest version of Red Riding Hood is very loosely based on the folktale collected by both Charles Perrault under the name “Le Petit Chaperon Rouge” (Little Red Riding Hood) and by the Brothers Grimm as “Rotkäppchen” (Little Redcap). The film also draws inspiration from Bruno Bettelheim’s book “The Uses of Enchantment”, in which he analyzes fairy tales in terms of Freudian psychology.

Above is a brief look at how artists, photographers, illustrators and other artisans have interpreted this fairy tale which has been passed on throughout generations showing it’s not just films that interpret such classic stories. With the launch of such a film as Catherine Hardwicke’s Little Red Riding Hood, it is safe to assume we’ll see much more.
